DRIFT AWAY

It's been a long day
The trains were all late
Time just ran away
Along with my faith
Like there was someplace
They both needed to be.

It's been a long day
For a routine escape
And my saving grace
As if often the case
Is pretending
I'm not really me.

And now I'm lying on this hotel bed
With a pillow under my head
Trying so hard to drift away

But I'm awake
Just wondering
Awake and pondering
Trying to find an absolution
Trying to fall asleep
For all too soon the day starts again

It's been a long day
Too much on my plate
It's been a long day
And hope dissipates
Into mistakes
And regrets I visit again

And now I'm lying on this hotel bed
With a pillow under my head
Trying so hard to drift away

But I'm awake
Just wondering
Awake and pondering
Trying to find an absolution
Trying to fall asleep
For all too soon the day starts again

These stranger's bedrooms
In stranger's houses
Never feel like home.

I don't know where I belong
